Musical Trees Activity

Activity is in Hinglish (which is a combination of Hindi and English translation).

Activity Information:

Grade Appropriate Level: Primary to Intermediate 

(Updated from Kids for Trees, developed by FORED BC for intermediate grades 4-7)


Badhe Ideas:

  • Dance, drama, gaana aur visual arts, yeh saare unique languages hain for creating and communicating (K – 7)

  • Plants aur animals dono ke kaafi observable features hote hain      


Materials: "Trees in Our Lives" worksheet (included) & tree identification books.

Objectives:

  • Students local tree species ko identify karenge jinka use musical instruments mein kiya jata hai

  • Students apne observations ko share aur record kar sakenge

  • Students music mein trees ke contribution ko appreciate kar sakenge

Prescribed Learning Outcomes:

Students are expected to know the following:

  • Local First Peoples ke plants aur animals ke uses

  • Characteristics of local plants, animals aur fungi

  • Art activities ko support karne ki processes, materials, technologies, tools aur techniques

  • Traditional aur contemporary Aboriginal Arts aur arts-making
    ke processes

Skills:

Students are expected to be able to do the following:

  • Make and record observations using their senses

  • Experience and interpret the local environment

  • Ask questions about familiar objects and events

  • Express & reflect on personal experiences of place

  • Demonstrate curiosity and a sense of wonder about the world

Pre-Class Preparation:

The teacher will need to make the following preparations prior to class: make copies of the below worksheet for each group of students. Have copies of tree identification books handy to identify local tree species that could be used to make the items on the worksheet.

Suggested Instructional Strategies (adapt for younger grades):

  • To complete this task, you will be working in small groups

  • To present your ideas to the rest of the class, ek person ko choose karein – Presenter

  • Group ke ideas ko record karne ke liye kisi aur ko choose karein – Recorder

  • Group members ideas ko encourage karenge aur group ko help karenge

  1. With your group,  "Trees in Our Lives"  Worksheet mein diye gaye har ek item ke bare mein discuss karein (below). Have the recorder place a checkmark beside each thing that someone in your group has tried or used.

2. Now look at each item your group checked off on the included worksheet. Ab apne community ke har woh places ke baare mein sochein where you can go to find this activity or get this product. Apne recorder ko har ek item ke paas apne ideas likhein on the lines under ‘Trees In Our Community’. (Feel free to explore online with supervision).

3. When your group is finished, help your Presenter get ready to explain your ideas to the whole class. Trees hamaare lives ke kaee aspects mein contribute karte hain jinmein music, art, literature, aur theatre involved hain. The following worksheet includes activities and materials that are made possible through the use of trees or tree products.

Extensions:

  • Recycled materials se aap apne khud ka instrument banayein  - CBC News.

  • Making music from trees. Or Growing an Ethical, Sustainable Guitar Forest.

  • Local First People ko apne class mein invite karein taki unki knowledge share kiya jaye of how trees are used in their culture and demonstrate (e.g. cedar for basket weaving, drumming)

  • Display banayein jismein dusron ko yeh dhikaye ke trees ka use kaise kiya jata hai
